I could see the potential of this working as business plan, but it would mean hundreds or even thousands of job losses.

I just heard that ITV are cutting back on some programmes - The Bill will only have one episode a week now, which is how it was in the first place.

itv is rubbish though, i think the only thing i ever watch on there is harry hill

if they had things people actually wanted to watch, they wouldn't be doing so bad with advertising revenue

Corrie's good and Emmerdale is very popular, the Bill's worth a watch and there are also quite a few mini-series dramas that crop up. Harry Hill has reached a plateau I reckon though - there's not been a single new idea in this series.

Channel 4 are also doing pretty bad with advertising, as is Channel 5. I blame those pirate types who take all the adverts out of the shows and make them available for download... will nobody think of the poor TV execs?!

Nobody's really done high-quality streaming since Stage6 collapsed. That vreel attempted it, but ended up being little more than a money pit. As far as I'm aware, the reason they don't stream internationally is because the actors , musicians and advertisers are all on set rates for broadcast within the UK only.

pretty much, and it's a crap business model to follow really, not changing with the times hurt the music business and now the tele industry....having paid subscribers would reduce their reliance on advertising money etc...all very daft.
